  • Introduction

This special issue of Social Sciences aims to deal with diversity and inclusion issues, especially regarding the LGBTQ community, the existing barriers to equality and the still common violations of rights this population undergoes on a daily basis. Several countries in the world have been endorsing far-right governments, which may threaten rights already recognized internationally, such as life, name, education, labor, health and movement. Despite this recognition, these same social rights are poorly implemented and sometimes poorly adapted to the needs of the LGBTQ community worldwide. There are still low percentages of access to work and education, especially by the transgender population, LGBTQ people cannot equally access goods, services, rights, public policies and the social inequalities are reinforced day by day. These structural problems not often surface, being kept away from the public eye, hence the perpetuation of social inequalities. Faced with all these issues that should be addressed by the academy, this special edition seeks to analyze what are the challenges beyond the rights already conquered, but virtually not accessible to the majority of the community, how is it possible to guarantee equal access to work, education and public policies, and also to offer a means to denounce the human rights violations that still constantly occur in several countries in the world. By doing so, this special issue attempts to contribute with the literature by compiling academic material from different perspectives.
Shall be accepted to consideration theoretical essays, research reports, empirical studies. 12 - 18 pages. The papers may be written in Portuguese, Spanish, English or French, but the authors must translate them to English in due time, at their own expense, if the paper is accepted by the editors.
